Christ’s Return
Mattew 24:43-44
“Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into. 44You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected”.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, show us how to live ready for the return of your Son. Thank you for the opportunity to learn at your feet in Jesus Name. Amen
How to Live Ready for Christ’s Return
1. Live in Expectant Hope
Titus 2:11–13
God’s marvelous grace has manifested in person, bringing salvation for everyone.
12This same grace teaches us how to live each day as we turn our backs on ungodliness and indulgent lifestyles, and it equips us to live self-controlled, upright, godly lives in this present age. 13For we continue to wait for the fulfillment of our hope in the dawning splendor of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus, the Anointed One
Philippians 3:20
Hebrews 9:28
Believers are not waiting in fear, but in joyful expectation.
The return of Christ is called the “blessed hope.”
Cultivate anticipation, not anxiety.
2. Pursue Holiness
2 Peter 3:11–14
“Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, 12looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames. 13But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.
14And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.
Those who truly hope in Christ seek to reflect His character.
Confess sin quickly. Remove habits that dull spiritual sensitivity.
3. Remain Faithful in Your Assignment
Matthew 24:45–46
“A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. 46If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward
1 Corinthians 15:58
Luke 19:13
Readiness means being found working faithfully when He comes.
Serve diligently where God has placed you.
4. Stay Spiritually Watchful
Matthew 25:1–13 (Parable of the Ten Virgins)
Mark 13:33–37 And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert!
34 “The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves. Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.”
You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return—in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak. 36Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning. 37I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!”
Instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return
Spiritual sleep dulls discernment. Watchfulness keeps the heart alert.
Maintain prayer, Word intake, and spiritual awareness.
5. Live With Eternal Priorities
Colossians 3:1–4
“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.”
When eternity governs decisions, worldly distractions lose control.
Invest time and resources in what has eternal value.
6. Walk in Love and Forgiveness
1 Peter 4:7–8 The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. 8Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.
Ephesians 4:31–32
End-time readiness includes guarding against cold love and hardened hearts.
Forgive quickly. Reconcile promptly.
7. Make Disciples Before Christ’s Return
Matthew 28:19–20
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
2Corinthians 5:20
“So, we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God
Living ready includes helping others be ready.
Witness faithfully. Disciple intentionally.
Be Patient
James 5:7–8
“Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen. 8You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near”.
Perseverance prepares you for eternal reward.
Balanced Understanding
Jesus said no one knows the exact day or hour (Matthew 24:36).
Your focus should be on preparation.
Readiness is:
- Faithfulness over speculation
- Holiness over fear
- Mission over distraction
Key Declaration
“I live watchful, faithful, and holy. I am prepared for Christ’s return and committed to His mission until He comes.”
