Many people look at wars, natural disasters, moral decline, economic uncertainty, and global unrest and ask the same question: Are we in the end times?
It is one of the most searched questions about Bible prophecy and has been asked by believers for generations.
Jesus taught that His followers should be watchful, prepared, and faithful. At the same time, He warned against fear, speculation, and setting dates for His return. Understanding what the Bible actually says about the end times helps us replace anxiety with hope and live each day with confidence in God’s promises.
The Bible often refers to the “last days” or “end times” as the period between Jesus Christ’s first and second comings. After Jesus’ resurrection and the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the apostles taught that believers were already living in the last days.
Peter quoted the prophet
Joel: “In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people…” (Acts 2:17)
The writer of Hebrews also says:
“In these last days he has spoken to us by his Son…” (Hebrews 1:2)
These passages show that, in one biblical sense, the church has been living in the last days since the first century. Christians today continue to live in that same period as they await Christ’s return.
Yes, according to the New Testament, believers are living in the last days. However, this does not mean we can know exactly when Jesus will return.
Jesus said:
“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” (Matthew 24:36)
Throughout history, many people have predicted specific dates for Christ’s return. Every prediction has failed.
Instead of encouraging date-setting, Jesus calls His followers to remain faithful and ready at all times.
In Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21, Jesus described events that would characterize the age before His return. These include:
Jesus compared these events to birth pains. Like labor contractions, they remind believers that history is moving toward God’s appointed conclusion. Yet He also said these events should not cause panic because they do not by themselves reveal the exact timing of His return.
The New Testament describes several characteristics of the last days.
Jesus warned that false teachers and false messiahs would arise to deceive many people (Matthew 24:24). Christians are called to test every teaching against Scripture.
Paul wrote that people would become lovers of themselves, lovers of money, proud, abusive, and lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God (2 Timothy 3:1–5). These verses remind believers to pursue holiness even when the culture moves in the opposite direction.
Despite increasing opposition, Jesus promised that the gospel would continue to be proclaimed throughout the world (Matthew 24:14). Around the globe, people continue to hear the good news of Jesus Christ through churches, missionaries, translations of the Bible, and digital media.
The Bible never presents the end times as a reason for despair. Instead, believers are encouraged to look forward to Christ’s return with hope, knowing that He will make all things new.

Many ideas about the end times come from popular books, movies, or internet videos rather than careful Bible study.

For Christians, the end of history is not the end of hope. It is the fulfillment of God’s plan of redemption.
So, are we in the end times?
According to the Bible, yes. Christians have been living in the last days since Christ’s first coming, and every generation should live in expectation of His return. At the same time, Scripture teaches that no one knows the exact day or hour.
Rather than living in fear, believers are called to live with faith, hope, and readiness. As you follow Christ, grow in His Word, serve others, and proclaim the gospel, you can face the future with confidence because God remains sovereign over history.
No matter what is happening in the world today, one truth never changes: Jesus Christ is Lord, He keeps His promises, and He will return at the time appointed by the Father.
