10 Ways to Serve God as a Son and Not Striving.

John 1:12

“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to

become children of God.

13They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from

human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.”

Praise God! You have become a child of God, not with physical birth.

You are a Son!

10 Ways to Serve God as a Son and Not Striving Like a Slave

 1. Understand Who You Are: You are a son, not a Slave

Galatians 4:7

“Therefore, you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”

Sonship is a gift established by Christ, not a reward earned by performance. Until your identity is settled, service will be strained.

2. Serve from Love, Not Fear

1 John 4:18

“Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love“

Perfect love casts out fear.”

2 Corinthians 5:13-14

“If it seems we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God. And if we are in our right minds, it is for your benefit. 14Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. 15He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life.”

Christ’s love controls us

Fear-driven service leads to burnout and people-pleasing.

 Sonship-driven service flows from love

3. Rest in the Finished Work of Christ

 Hebrews 10:14

Striving comes from believing something is still lacking.

Sons serve knowing Christ has already completed the work of redemption.

4. Obey as a son

Luke 22:42-43

“Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” 43Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him.”

Sons obey because they trust the father’s heart. Slaves obey to avoid punishment.

5. Serve with Inheritance Consciousness

Romans 8:17

“If children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.”

Slaves have wages; sons have inheritance.

Serve with confidence, not anxiety.

6. Approach God with Bold Access

Hebrews 4:16

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

Ephesians 3:12

“Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.”

7. Receive Correction as a Loved Child

Hebrews 12:6

“For the Lord disciplines those he loves,
And he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”

Revelation 3:19

“I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.”

Slaves fear correction; sons learn from it.

Correction confirms sonship, not rejection.

8. Serve for God’s Pleasure, Not Human Approval

Matthew 3:17

“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Galatians 1:10

“If I still pleased men, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

Serve knowing you are already pleasing to the Father in Christ.

 9. Let the Holy Spirit Empower Your Service

Act 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.

The Spirit empowers both your desire and action, removing striving.

10. Abide, Don’t Strive

John 15:4–5

Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. Apart from me, you can do nothing.

Abiding produces fruit

Declaration

I am a son of God through Christ Jesus. I serve my father from love, rest, and identity—not from fear, pressure, or striving. I walk in sonship and bear lasting fruit. Amen.
