Mattew 7:24-27
“Everyone who hears my teaching and applies it to his life can be
compared to a wise man who built his house on an unshakable foundation.
25When the rains fell, and the flood came, with fierce winds beating
Upon his house, it stood firm because of its strong foundation.
26“But everyone who hears my teaching and does not apply it to his
life can be compared to a foolish man who built his house on sand.
27When it rained and rained, and the flood came, with wind and
waves beating upon his house, it collapsed and was swept away.”
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, the entrance of your word gives light.
Thank you for the opportunity to learn at your feet in Jesus Name.
Amen
The major reason you fail in your relationship with God and give up in the
journey is failure to build your spiritual life on a strong foundation
Jesus said Matthew 7:24-27
“Everyone who hears my teaching and applies it to his life can be compared
to a wise man who built his house on an unshakable foundation.
25When the rains fell, and the flood came, with fierce winds beating
upon his house, it stood firm because of its strong foundation.
A foundation is the base or groundwork upon which something is built.
In your Christian journey, spiritual growth, maturity, and
effectiveness depend on a solid foundation of basic truths.
Hebrews 6:1-3
“Now is the time for us to progress beyond the basic message of
Christ and advance into perfection. The foundation has already
been laid for us to build upon: turning away from our dead works
to embrace faith in God, 2teaching about different baptisms,
impartation by the laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead,
and eternal judgment. 3So with God’s enablement, we will move on to deeper truths.
6 Foundational Teaching of the Christian Faith
1. Repentance from Dead Works
Hebrews 6:1
Dead works are religious actions done without faith or life in Christ.
They are sinful works of the flesh that are contrary to the Spirit
Galatians 5:19-21
“The behavior of the self-life is obvious: Sexual immorality, lustful thoughts,
pornography, 20, chasing after things instead of God, manipulating others,
hatred of those who get in your way, senseless arguments, resentment
when others are favored, temper tantrums, angry quarrels, and only thinking
of yourself, being in love with your own opinions, 21being envious of the
blessings of others, murder, uncontrolled addictions, wild parties, and
all other similar behavior.
Haven’t I already warned you that those who use their “freedom” for these
things will not inherit the kingdom of God!
Mattew 7:21
“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.”
Acts 3:19-21
“Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.
20Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord,
and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.
21For he must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things,
as God promised long ago through his holy prophets”.
Hebrews 9:14
“Yet how much more will the sacred blood of the Messiah thoroughly
cleanse our consciences! For by the power of the eternal Spirit,
he has offered himself to God as the perfect Sacrifice that now frees
us from our dead works to worship and serve the living God”.
Turning away from sin and self-effort as a way to be made right with God.
2. Faith Toward God
Trusting God fully for salvation, provision, and daily life.
Faith is the bridge between repentance and a life of obedience.
Hebrews 11:6
“And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to
come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those
who sincerely seek him”.
Pleasing God releases blessings, brings confidence, and peace.
3. Doctrine of Baptisms
Understanding the three major baptisms:
Water baptism
Matthew 28:18-19
“Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit
After salvation, Immersion in water and a public declaration of new life.
Baptism into the Body of Christ
1 Corinthians 12:13
“Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit”.
This is your spiritual placement into God’s family.
Baptism in the Holy Spirit
Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.
Acts 2:4
“And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
Empowerment for service.
4. Laying On of Hands
A spiritual act of impartation, blessing, healing, commissioning, or receiving the Holy Spirit.
Acts 8:17
“Then Peter and John laid their hands upon these believers, and they received the Holy Spirit”.
Mark 16:18
“And they will lay hands on the sick and heal them.”
Acts 13:3
So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way.
1 Timothy 4:14
“Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecy spoken over you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you.”
Acts 6:6
“These seven were presented to the apostles, who prayed for them as they laid their hands on them”.
Transfer of spiritual gifts, healing, authority, and encouragement.
5. Resurrection of the Dead
The dead in Christ will rise with glorified bodies at His return, and all people will be raised for judgment.
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17
“For the Lord himself will appear with the declaration of victory, the shout of an archangel, and the trumpet blast of God. He will descend from the heavenly realm and command those who are dead in Christ to rise first. 17Then we who are alive will join them, transported together in clouds to have an encounter with the Lord in the air, and we will be forever joined with the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:52-53
“It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last
trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died
will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed.
53For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die;
our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies
6. Eternal Judgment
God will judge every person:
Hebrews 9:27
Every human being is appointed to die once and then to face God’s judgment.
The Judgment Seat of Christ for rewards.
2 Corinthians 5:10
“Whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our goal is to please him.
10For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever
we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.”
1 Corinthians 3”12-15
“Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials
—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13But on the judgment day,
fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done.
The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.
14If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward.
15But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss.
The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames”.
The Great White Throne Judgment for eternal separation.
Revelation 20:11–15
“Then I saw a great, dazzling-white throne and the One who sits on it.
Heaven and earth fled from his presence, and they were no more.
12I saw the dead, the lowly and the famous alike, standing before the throne.
Books were opened, and then another book was opened: the Book of Life.
The dead were judged by what they had done as recorded in the books.
13And the sea gave up the dead souls that were in it.
Then death and the underworld gave up their dead, and all were judged
according to what they had done. 14Then death and the realm of the
dead were cast into the lake of fire, for the lake of fire is the second death.
15And anyone whose name was not recorded in the Book of Life was cast
into the lake of fire.
Revelation 21:8 Amp
“But as for the cowards and unbelieving and abominable [who are devoid
of character and personal integrity, and practice or tolerate immorality,
and murderers, and sorcerers [with intoxicating drugs], and idolaters, and
occultists [who practice and teach false religions], and all the liars
[who knowingly deceive and twist truth], their part will be in the
lake that blazes with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
