10 Biblical Proofs Of The Death And Resurrection Of Jesus Christ

Death

1. Corinthians 15:3-7
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, the entrance of your word gives light. Thank you for the opportunity to learn at your feet in Jesus Name. Amen

The word Death in the Bible means separation.

God is a Spirit.

John 4:24

For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”

Man is a spirit, has a soul, but lives in a physical body.

I Thessalonians 5:23

“Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.”

There are three types of death:

(a)Spiritual death refers to separation from God due to sin or disobedience.

Genesis 2:15-17

The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. 16But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— 17except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”

(b)Physical death in the Bible refers to the separation of the soul/spirit from the physical body.

James 2:26

“For just as a human body without the spirit is dead, so faith without the expression of good works is dead!

(c) Eternal death is the final, spiritual separation from God

Matthew 10-28

“Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

2 Thessalonians 1:9

He will bring perfect and full justice to those who don’t know God and to those who refuse to embrace the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9They will suffer the penalty of eternal destruction, banished from the Lord’s presence

Revelation 20:14-15

“Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. 15And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.”

Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.

Biblical Proof Of The Death And Resurrection Of Jesus Christ

1. The Death of Christ Was Prophesied Centuries Earlier

Isaiah 53:7-9

He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word.
He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers,
He did not open his mouth.
8Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants,
that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people.
9He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone.
But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave.

The death of Christ was prophesied centuries earlier.”

Oppressed and treated harshly

Unjustly condemned

He was buried like a criminal in a rich man’s grave.

The death of Christ was prophesied centuries earlier

The Biblical Proof Of The Death And Resurrection Of Jesus Christ

2. Eyewitness Accounts of His Death

John 19:31–35 NLT

“So they asked Pilate to hasten their deaths by ordering that their legs be broken. Then their bodies could be taken down. 32So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men crucified with Jesus. 33But when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead, so they didn’t break his legs. 34One of the soldiers, however, pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out. 35(This report is from an eyewitness giving an accurate account).”

3. A Roman Officer Confirmed His Death

Mark 15:44–45 (KJV)
“Pilate couldn’t believe that Jesus was already dead, so he called for the Roman officer and asked if he had died yet. 45The officer confirmed that Jesus was dead, so Pilate told Joseph he could have the body

4. A Rich Called Joseph From Arimathea Buried Jesus

Matthew 27:59–60

“As evening approached, Joseph, a rich man from Arimathea who had become a follower of Jesus, 58went to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. And Pilate issued an order to release it to him. 59Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a long sheet of clean linen cloth. 60He placed it in his own new tomb, which had been carved out of the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance and left.”

5. The Tomb Was Found Empty.

Matthew 28:5–6
“Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He isn’t here! He has risen from the dead.”

The tomb was found empty—not spiritually empty, but physically empty.

6.  Multiple Eyewitnesses Saw Him Alive

Jesus appeared to many after His resurrection:

1. Corinthians 15:5

He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. 6After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. 7Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles.

7. Physical Evidence of His Resurrected Body

Luke 24:36-40

“And just as they were telling about it, Jesus himself was suddenly standing there among them. “Peace be with you,” he said. 37But the whole group was startled and frightened, thinking they were seeing a ghost!
38 “Why are you frightened?” he asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt? 39Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.” 40As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet.”

John 20:27

One of the twelve disciples, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), was not with the others when Jesus came. 25They told him, “We have seen the Lord!”
But he replied, “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands, put my fingers into them, and place my hand into the wound in his side.”
26Eight days later, the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked, but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them. “Peace be with you,” he said. 27Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!”
28“My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed.
29Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”

8. The Apostles Testified Powerfully To His Resurrection

Acts 4:33
“The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all,”

9. David Spoke About His Resurrection

Acts 2:32

“Dear brothers, think about this! You can be sure that the patriarch David wasn’t referring to himself, for he died and was buried, and his tomb is still here among us. 30But he was a prophet, and he knew God had promised with an oath that one of David’s own descendants would sit on his throne. 31David looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah’s resurrection. He was saying that God would not leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the grave.
32“God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this.

10. Fulfillment of Jesus’ Own Words

Matthew 16:21

21From then on, Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that he needed to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead.

Jesus predicted His death and resurrection—and fulfilled it exactly.

John 11:25 (KJV)
“I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”

Conclusion

1 Corinthians 15:14 (KJV)
“And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.”

Revelation 1:17

“When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. 18I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.”

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of Christianity.

Without it, faith collapses.
